Cavani better than Osimhen says Uruguayan former agent

The agent of iconic striker Edinson Cavani, Claudio Anellucci, has provided his take on long-standing comparisons between his former client, and current Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen.

Nigerian international Osimhen has of course long secured for himself hero status in Naples.

This comes after the 24-year-old led the charge with 26 goals, en route to Napoli’s historic Scudetto-winning campaign last time out.

Boasting a complete repertoire of touch, link-up play, aerial ability, and deadly finishing, Osimhen is now widely considered to be one of world football’s standout forwards.

Comparisons with another once-prolific Partenopei attacker, in the form of Edinson Cavani, have therefore inevitably come to the fore amongst fans and the media alike.

Cavani, now of Boca Juniors, enjoyed a scintillating three-year stint at the Stadio San Paolo, which saw him rack up 78 goals in just over 100 appearances between 2010 and 2013.

And, as alluded to above, one individual of the opinion that this record, for the time being at least, sets the 36-year-old apart from Osimhen, comes in the form of the aforementioned Claudio Anellucci.

Agent Anellucci was drawn on the similarities between his ex-client and Napoli’s current number 9 during an interview with Radio CRC.

And although he was full of praise for Osimhen, Anellucci went on to suggest that the Nigerian must follow up his one standout season to date with yet more prolific terms, to be worthy of being discussed in the same breath as Cavani:

“I don’t find any similarity between Cavani and Osimhen. The Nigerian is certainly an important footballer, the championship season bears witness to this but the year of confirmation is always the following one. He always has many physical problems, you can also see it from this. Maybe it’s because the heart is involved, but for me, Cavani is still superior to the current number nine.”
