CAF Confederation Cup: Kwara United beat defending champions, Berkane
Despite widely been referred to as underdogs, Nigeria's sole surviving representative in the CAF Confederations Cup, Kwara United are turning heads with their spectacular display.
At the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex in Lagos on Sunday, Kwara United came from behind to beat RS Berkane of Morocco in the first leg of the qualifying round of the Confederation Cup.
Going into Sunday's first leg tie, the Morocco giants who are the defending champions were widely seen as the favourites despite playing away from home.
They came into the country on Friday with high hopes after they were drawn bye in the preliminary round.
To prove their high rating, it Berkane that netted the opening goal through Cheik Qattara in the 8th minute and they seized control of the game.
However, second half goals from substitutes Taofeek Ahmed with Wasiu Jimoh and Barnabas Daniel handed the Afonja Warriors a somewhat healthy advantage going into the second leg.
After the equaliser in the 73rd minute by Taofeek Ahmed, Wasiu Jimoh put the host in control of the game for the first time in the 84th minute before Daniel sealed the game with the 3rd goal four minutes later and it ended 3-1.
The Nigeria side will face RS Berkane in the reverse fixture next weekend in Morocco with the winner going into the playoffs for a place in the group stage
