Amusan to compete at New Balance Grand Prix on Sunday

World 100m hurdles Champion, Tobi Amusan, and world leader in the 60 metres hurdles, Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas will race against each other over the 60 metred hurdles at the New Balance Grand Prix, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Boston today,  They met last over the distance in March 2018, when the Bahamian defeated Amusan for the second time in three meetings.  It was at the World Indoor championships in Birmingham where Amusan ran 7.91sec to come third in the first semifinal. Charlton ran 7.89 to place second in the semifinal heat.

Sunday, Amusan will not only be keen to equal their head-to-head record, but she will also target the 7.75sec world-leading time run by the Bahamian at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas on January 20, 2024.  The 26-year-old Nigerian ran a new 7.77sec African record in Astana, Kazakhstan seven days later, and will be eager to improve on that as she seeks to become the first Nigerian to win a World indoor and a world outdoor title.
