Super Eagles gaffer, Augustine Eguavoen believes AFCON 2021 Group D opener against the Pharaohs of Egypt won't be a stroll in the park for his players.
Nigeria is grouped alongside the seven times African champions, Sudan and Guinea Bissau, but Eguavoen declared that he is looking forward to a tough clash with the North Africans.
Speaking in an interview with British newspaper The Guardian before the team's departure for Garoua, the former KAA Gent right full-back hinged his submission on the strength and pedigree of their opponent coupled with Nigeria's past encounters with The Pharaohs.
He posited further Nigeria would need to put in adequate preparations by digging deeper into its technical books of tricks and come up with a formation to stand a chance of making any appreciable impact against Egypt come January 11.
“ Our start against Egypt will be very difficult. I've faced them as a player and a coach, and it's never an easy game. We have to be very well prepared if we want to come out with a positive result, ”he added.
Nigeria face Egypt on January 11 with the hope of neutralizing their North African opponent knowing fully well that the result of the match could determine the group winner.
Super Eagles will then square up against Sudan four days later while the last group encounter against Guinea Bissau comes up on January 19.
