The coach of the Future Eagles, Charles Bassey,  has called for early preparation for the team as the host and dates are confirmed for the 2023 African Youth Games.

The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) rose from their General Assembly in Seoul South Korea over the weekend to declare that the 2023 edition of the African Youth Games will take place in Congo, Brazzaville over Easter of 2023.

The competition which was earlier scheduled to hold in Egypt before it was postponed and eventually canceled will have the young boys and girls in Africa participating in various sports including football, in which the Future Eagles will also feature.

According to a release by the team's media, the coach was quoted to have said the team will not disappoint and hit the ground running if they can start early camping.

"The All Africa Youth Games is very important for our boys and we will be ready for it if given an early period to start camping", said Godwin.

"We hope to start camp early enough and we will hit the ground running," he mused.

The African Youth Games is a multi-sport event held every four years as a prelude to the Summer Youth Olympics.

The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) is an organizer of the games which are targeted at discovering young African athletes, both girls, and boys of 14–18 years, with about 30 sports codes.

Nigeria has participated in the last two editions in Gaborone and Algiers, improving their medal tally between the two Games.
