2022 Commonwealth Games: Nigeria spread red carpet for returning athletes
Nigeria finished in the seventh position at the Games with a harvest of 35 medals
Team Nigeria athletes on Wednesday received a heroic welcome in Abuja following their arrival from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
The first batch of the contingent was received on arrival by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare.
Nigeria finished in the seventh position at the Games with a harvest of 35 medals.
It was Team Nigeria’s best performance in the history of the Commonwealth Games.

“We are proud of you. We are also ready to give you all the support needed to make you soar higher and higher.”
Speaking on behalf of the athletes, the two-time Commonwealth gold medallist and Tokyo 2020 silver medalist, Blessing Oborodudu, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for all his support to the Team, describing him as the father of sports in contemporary Nigeria.
