The next generation of Golden Eaglets players could have one of the top-rated youth coaches in the United Kingdom bark out orders from the touchline after Oldham gaffer, Chuks Akuneto declared his readiness to manage the Nigerian cadet side.
Speaking from his base in Manchester, the former Stationary Stores player stated in clear terms that his desire to tinker Eaglets is driven by his age-long hunger pangs to bridge the talent gap between Nigeria's junior side and the Super Eagles.
More importantly, Akuneto stressed that paramount before him would be to change the face of youth football in Nigeria by producing players that will metamorphose into the senior side.
" Nigeria is so blessed with abundant talents," begins Akuneto.
"I see no reason why we can't produce players in the mold of Rodrygo, Mbappe, and Vinicius, but we have to get it right with our youth structure first.
"God-willing, we can it get right considering the vision of the current NFF board. Our Youth structure can be the best, but let God have his way as regards the job," he said
Akuneto was announced as the U-19s coach of English club Oldham Athletics On 17 July 2023.He coached the U-18s team at Stockport County before he joined Oldham.
