Many believed that a car accident would bring Tiger Woods' professional golf career to an end, especially after so many tribulations in recent years, yet the American star has signed up for the US Open after his recent participation at the Masters.

Woods has won the US Open tournament on three occasions and he formally registered for the 2022 event prior to Wednesday's deadline.

It is the third grand slam of the 2022 season and it will be played between June 16 and 19 at the Massachusetts Country Club.

Whilst the details surrounding the incident are somewhat unclear, what is fully known is the extent of the damage Woods suffered in his February 2021 car accident.

He almost lost a leg due to the damage, so few ever thought he would play professional golf at a competitive level again.

Even Woods himself admitted he was near retirement, yet his performance at the Augusta National course was positive, hence why he is looking to carry on playing.
