Osimhen manager labels insinuation that Eagles striker won’t a new deal as ‘fake news’.

The manager of Super Eagles and Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen Roberto Calenda has described the rumour that the striker won’t sign a new deal with Napoli as fake news.

The 24-year-old Nigerian striker was the leading man in the Partenopei’s Scudetto charge last season, playing a crucial role in breaking their 33-year wait for a league title, scoring 26 goals in 32 games.

Osimhen has two years left on his contract at Napoli and the club are keen to tie him down to a new deal amidst the interest of some of Europe’s top clubs.

Calenda took to Twitter on Monday to call out a report from Naples-based newspaper Il Mattino, saying: “I read in Il Mattino that ‘Calenda has no intention of renewing in the summer and that he wants to explore all avenues in the market first’. Fake news.”

Osimhen has been linked to clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich in recent months but is seemingly happy to commit his future to Napoli and pen a new contract.

Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis is not interested in selling the 24-year-old this summer and suggested that it would take upwards of €150m to sign the striker.

Napoli's new boss Rudi Garcia has also indicated that he expects Osimhen to remain at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona for 2023-24.

Speaking to reporters, Garcia said: "Of course, I have spoken to him. I can assure you that he wants to stay, he is happy to be with us and still wants to do great things."

Osimhen has spent a total of three years at Napoli, chipping in with 59 goals and 14 assists from his 101 appearances in all competitions.

Napoli are yet to add any fresh faces to their squad for next season, yet the loan stints of Giacomo Raspadori and Giovanni Simeone have been converted into permanent deals.De Laurentiis is now likely to try to negotiate a new contract with Osimhen, who cost €70m plus add-ons in 2020, with the need to try to protect his value.
