NPFL: Shooting Stars escape relegation as Remo Stars seal continental ticket in style
Aside from Remo Stars, Abia Warriors, Dakkada FC also secured 3-0 victories over Lobi Stars and Sunshine Stars respectively
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) ended in dramatic fashion on Sunday with relegation and continental football candidates now officially confirmed.
The luckiest team on the final day of action was Shooting Stars who despite losing 2-1 to relegated Kano Pillars survived the drop.
The Oluyole Warriors needed at least a point in Kano to solidify their chance of staying in the elite division but while they failed to do so, they were miraculously helped by Wikki Tourists who went all out to defeat Katsina United 2-0.
While the victory is less significant for Wikki, it served as a big blow to Kastina United who have now been relegated back to the Nigeria National League on the account of this final day loss.
With this, the quartet of MFM FC, Heartland, Kano Pillars and Katsina United have all been relegated from the NPFL to the NNL.
Also on the final day, Remo Stars sealed their place in the CAF Confederation Cup next season with an emphatic 3-0 demolition of Niger Tornadoes.
Aside from Remo Stars, Abia Warriors, Dakkada FC also secured 3-0 victories over Lobi Stars and Sunshine Stars respectively.
Champions Rivers United signed off the season with a lone goal victory over Gombe United.
