The upcoming NFF election is in trouble waters after  Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the country's soccer governing body to extend it official invitations to the Annual General Assembly of the NFF or risk litigation that could scuttle the hosting of the next proposed elections of the next Executive Committee members.
In a letter dated August 16, 2022, signed by the Secretary of PFAN Emmanuel Babayaro on behalf of the association, the President of the association Tijani Babangida which was sent to the NFF, the players union demanded clarification on why its members were not invited for the AGA.
It said the clarification should be made before the close of work on Wednesday consequent upon which it would consider the next line of action.
The letter, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent, read: Sequel to our letter dated August 9, 2022, reminding the NFF about the commission of the players union (one of the statutory members of the federation) from the invitation to the Nigeria Football Federation Annual General Assembly 2021 and the NFF silent treatment of lack of response.
“As a follow up therefore I have been directed by the PFAN executive to put the NFF on a 24-hour notice to elapse by close of work on August 17 for response and clarification. Consequent upon which the players union will consider its options including the boycott of the AGA.”
The players are miffed that after succumbing to pleas from stakeholders to withdraw a suit barring the staging of the AGA, the NFF could still shut them out of the same event despite being statutory members of Congress.
Iwitnesslive learned that the NFF rather sent invitations to a players union it allegedly created instead of PFAN established by players themselves.
