President Emmanuel Macron is trying to convince Kylian Mbappe to stay at Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports.

The French giants are getting desperate in their attempts to convince the 23-year-old to pen a new deal at the Parc des Princes.

Mbappe's current contract has just four months left to run, with Real Madrid expected to sign him for free in the summer.

But according to AS, PSG are hoping that presidential treatment will help make up their star player's mind.

They claim that Emmanuel Macron is eager for Mbappe to remain in France, and has made his feelings clear.

Last summer, the 44-year-old said: "PSG is a great club that has been able to make him grow and I think it's important that he stays in that team - for the club and for the French championship."

One of Macron's predecessors Nicolas Sarkozy, who was at the helm between 2007 and 2012, is also claimed to be trying to influence Mbappe's decision.

The 67-year-old was in attendance as PSG beat Real Madrid 1-0 at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

Sarkozy reportedly spent his evening 'lobbying' for Mbappe to stay, after witnessing the Frenchman score a magnificent last-gasp winner.

The relationship between PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is understood to be virtually non-existent over the Mbappe saga.

Their teams will meet again at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 9, with a place in the Champions League quarter-finals at stake.

Despite reports to the contrary, Mbappe insisted this week that his future is yet to be decided.

Speaking perfect Spanish, he told broadcaster Movistar: "I've not decided my future. I play for Paris Saint-Germain, one of the best clubs in the world.

"This game to influence my future? No – I've not decided, I give my best and then we will see what happens next season."
