Klopp says defeat by Brighton his worst-ever game

Liverpool were blown away at the Amex Stadium to make it three games without a victory for Klopp’s side, who slid beneath Brighton in the Premier League table and sit seven points off the top four.

“I’m not sure if it’s because it’s only a few minutes since the game but I can’t remember a worse game,” Klopp said. “I honestly can’t and I mean all [my career] not only Liverpool and that’s my responsibility. So that makes it a really low point.”
Liverpool had two shots on target and barely created a chance. Mohamed Salah was subdued and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain struggled while it was not an easy game for Cody Gakpo to impress on his Premier League debut.
Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Virgil van Dijk are all out injured but Klopp said Liverpool’s problems go deeper than the list of absentees.
“This isn’t one of those games where you say, ‘it’s a one-off’. The moment is not great for us,” Klopp said. “Yes, we have injury problems and all these kinds of things but, come on, the team we lined up today was really not a bad one. What we made of it was not good, that’s true, but it’s not a moment where you say, ‘forget about it’.”
Klopp said he worked on a different system last week, which allowed Thiago Alcantara to break forward out of the midfield three. But Thiago barely featured in the game and Brighton poured through Liverpool’s midfield.
Asked if his players are not listening or not capable of carrying out his instructions, Klopp said: “It’s okay to ask the question but I don’t have to answer. The outcome was horrible to watch. Everyone with a Brighton heart will have enjoyed the game a lot. No-one with a Liverpool heart enjoyed it for a second. I think the players listen, I’m pretty sure about that, but I know where you are coming from and I see that it didn’t look like it.”
