Guinea Bissau goalkeeper, Jonas Mendes believes The Djurtus are fired up to give the Super Eagles a good run for their money when both countries clash on Wednesday's Group D fixtures.
In a chat with the media on Tuesday, the goalkeeper who took up the role of an interpreter during the pre-match conference hinged his submission on his team's preparation for the much-anticipated encounter.
Guinea Bissau made their AFCON debut in 2017 but failed to record a single win. The Djurtus also made it to the 2019 edition and failed to better their previous record, but Mendez believes the hour has come for his country to record its first AFCON win come Wednesday.
" it is very important for us to get our first victory in AFCON. On Wednesday, we are going to do our best to win. I know it is going to be a tough game but we know all we need is to get is the three points.
" The last game was tough for us but as a professional, we know how to get out of such a situation. We are motivated to face Nigeria to qualify for the next round. We want to make our people happy," Mendez boasted.
He maintained that all hands are on deck to ensure Nigeria is beaten, knowing fully well that only an outright win can guarantee Guinea Bissau a slot in the knockout stage of the competition.
"We rested after our game against Egypt and our coach gave us broad preparation. We will be in our best physical form to face Nigeria," Mendes conclud
