Renowned professor of sports psychology Seun Omotayo has commended Austin Eguavoen and other members of the Super Eagles technical crew despite the 1-0 defeat of the Nigerian team by the Tunisia Cartage Eagles in the last 16 rounds of the ongoing Afcon.

“The Eguavoun led technical crew should be commended for advancing to the last 16 given the circumstances that led to the take over from the German Coach Genot Rohr whose handling of the Super Eagles for six years was quite traumatizing,” said Omotayo.

The professor of sports said “the national team under Eguavoen changed for the better within the short time. I believed Eguavoen and his team should be given more time. If they are given half of the chance the NFF board gave the German Coach, they will not only turn around  the Super Eagles to what it was before the German was employed,  our boys shall become a national pride  again and make football continue in the role as  the most veritable unifying force in Nigeria”

Omotayo appealed to the NFF not to bring in another foreign coach,

“NFF should dispense with the Portuguese coach Jose Pesiero rather they should allow the all Nigeria led Eguavoen and his team concentrate on qualifying Nigeria for the 2022 World Cup. The Super Eagles under the watch of Eguavoun is a work in progress that has a high chance of progressing well if the NFF refrain from a disruptive decision of bringing another coach at this point in time. Above all, NFF should lead the way in the indigenization of sports coaching in Nigeria. It is sustainable just as it makes economic sense in the long run. Proudly Nigerian.”  Said Omotayo
