Ghana vs. Nigeria: Black Stars to arrive in Kumasi on Tuesday
Ghana vs Nigeria

The Black Stars will arrive in Kumasi on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, for the huge 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Reports from Ghana monitored by 234sportsng.com revealed that Black Stars will have a full house on Monday with the players, technical team and management members all present before enplaning to the Ashanti Regional capital for the first leg encounter.

Although the squad hasn’t been made public, it is understood that the invited players know themselves and are fired up to down Nigeria.

Head coach Otto Addo and technical advisor Chris Hughton who are both outside the country are expected to arrive this weekend to commence preparations.

Black Stars will start training in Kumasi on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, for the first leg of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff against Nigeria.

Ghanaians have no idea which players have been invited by the Black Stars technical team headed by Otto Addo with the Ghana Football Association defending the shocking decision.

However, the invited players have assured Otto Addo of their availability and should be present when training officially commence on Tuesday.

They will train for three days with Otto Addo and his team including Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, George Boateng and technical advisor Chris Hughton mapping out a strategy that can deliver a really good first leg result to take to Abuja.

Ghana have kept a low profile in terms of preparations for the tie, and many Ghanaians are not confident that the Black Stars will deliver something spectacular to oust Nigeria.

On paper, Nigeria are the favourites and they seem to be doing things right off the field. From announcing their squad early this month to players being promised huge winning bonuses and the technical team boasting of having their lineup ready.

But the Black Stars have certainly been boosted by the announcement of Baba Yara Stadium for the first leg after the Cape Coast Stadium was rejected by CAF owing to the badly damaged pitch.

The last time the feared stadium hosted a similar high-profile match was in 2013 and the Black Stars recorded a remarkable scoreline that Ghanaians still remember.

Black Stars whitewashed Egypt 6-1 in the first leg of playoff, with the second leg 2-1 defeat making difference, as the team qualified for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

However, the 6-1 drubbing is not the only famous win by Ghana in Kumasi, a year before the game against Egypt, the Black Stars thrashed Lesotho 7-0 at the same venue.

The Black Stars also defeated Ethiopia 5-0 at the Baba Yara sports stadium during the qualifiers for AFCON 2019. Kumasi produces goals for the Black Stars, hence a reason for the Super Eagles to panic.

Meanwhile, football is considered a religion in the Ashanti Region and when the Black Stars arrive in town they are kingly received.

The fans troop to the stadium in numbers to watch Ghana play all the time, and as usual the 40,000 capacity seater stadium is expected to be filled to the brim.
