Fury advised to be wary of Ngannou with Mike Tyson in his corner, but Uysk dismisses the threat

Loquacious British boxer Tyson Fury has been warned that Francis Ngannou could shock the world.

The WBC heavyweight champion is preparing to take on former UFC star F Ngannou in a crossover boxing bout on October 28. Ngannou, who was the reigning UFC champion when he left the organisation, will be making his professional boxing debut but does hold a world record for his punching power.

Fury will be hoping to get through the exhibition bout unscathed, having agreed to fight Oleksandr Usyk to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999. There have been suggestions that the long-awaited clash could reportedly take place as soon as December 23, though it is likely to be in the first few months of 2024.

However, Fury has been instructed not to overlook his upcoming fight with Ngannou. The MMA star will be eager to make the most of his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and has enlisted the help of a boxing legend.

Mike Tyson is among the trainers helping Ngannou prepare to face Fury, alongside his MMA coach Eric Nicksick. This has caught the attention of Fury’s US promoter Bob Arum, who wrote on social media: "Mike Tyson is doing a great job training and advising Francis Ngannou. I’ve cautioned Tyson Fury to be very careful, particularly of Ngannou’s incredible right hand."

Fury’s namesake became world-renowned for his own punching power during his hall-of-fame boxing career and will hope to pass on a few key pointers to Ngannou. Speaking earlier this month, Tyson admitted he had been surprised by the MMA heavyweight’s boxing ability.

"I am helping Ngannou. I am learning what he is able to do,” he told the Daily Mail. “He's able to do so much more than I anticipated. He has what it takes to knock out anything or anybody standing in his way.

“Once he lands a punch on Tyson Fury's jaw he is going to knock him out too. Nobody can survive that. He's making some money for his family.”

But WBA, WBO, IBF,

and Ring Magazine heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk 21-0 (14) will be ringside for Fury’s next fight but he isn’t expecting anything other than a whitewash from the self-styled Gypsy King.

“Yes, I’m going there. I would like to see the bout,” Usyk said on his Usyk17 YouTube channel.

“The promotion is impressive and it’s understood because this is a show that people are waiting for. But for a professional boxer, it’s completely different.

“This bout is bread and butter for Tyson Fury. This is my attitude towards boxing. And when someone is saying that Ngannou can drop him, I would probably agree, but I’m really not certain.

“Tell me, how could a guy with no experience in boxing beat a two-metre giant who’s been boxing for 20 years?

“Yes, Ngannou is a UFC champion. I’m not disputing it, but UFC isn’t boxing. I’m sure 100% that Tyson Fury will be victorious. He will effortlessly win.”
