Football star Steve Hodge heaped praise on Nottingham Forest star Taiwo Awoniyi after the Reds defeated Arsenal 1-0 at the City Ground.

The Reds striker notched for the fifth time in his last three games with a well-taken effort in the first half.

Awoniyi has now scored 10 times in all competitions during 2022/23 and that isn’t a bad return from the £17.5 million player.

The 25-year-old has been a decent signing and the Reds really missed him when he was sidelined for three months.

Hodge appears to be a big fan of the striker and he heaped praise on him during his co-commentary stint.

He told BBC Radio Nottingham: “In these big games when you get a chance like that you have to take it. He got a bit of luck, but he’s earned it with how well he’s played lately.”

Awoniyi was a player who so often divided opinion earlier in the campaign but he’s almost got better without playing.

It was crystal clear that Forest missed him when he was out injured and he’s come back at just the right time.

Forest will be made up to finally put an end to the discussion over their Premier League status and they can look forward to next season.

The Reds will hope to keep Awoniyi and the hope will be that he can score even more goals, with a year of experience under his belt.

Awoniyi is a player who simply loves to play football. He’s always got a smile on his face and he’s loving life at the City Ground.

The 25-year-old still has bags of time on his side and hopefully, he can star at Forest for many years to come just yet.

Awoniyi has really come good at the right time and Forest will be indebted to him for his recent goalscoring antics.
