Paul Acquah was the hero on Thursday evening in Uyo as Rivers United moves closer to the Quarter Final of the CAF Confederation Cup after defeating Democratic Republic of Congo side Motema Pembe 3-1 in the CAF Confederation Cup match in Uyo on Thursday.

Paul Acquah scored all Rivers United's goals as the Pride of Rivers earned their third consecutive win in the series to stay on top of group B with nine points, opening up a two-point gap ahead of their nearest rival, Asec Mimosa.

The Ghanaian opened scoring in the 45th minute and scored the second goal nine minutes into the second half and completed his hattrick in the 90+ 3 minutes to restore Rivers United's two cushions after Yalle reduced the tally for the visitors in the 72nd minute.

Rivers United needs just three points in their remaining two games in the group, at home at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium against Diable Noirs of Congo on matchday five and away to Asec Mimosa in the last matchday six.
