The two teams from Nigeria in the CAF Champions League are through to the next round of the continental club tournament.

The reigning Nigeria Professional Football League champions Rivers United booked their passage despite going down to a 1-0 defeat against Liberia’s Watanga FC on Sunday.

Farsedu Logan scored the only goal of the game from the spot on 16 minutes but it was from adequate as Rivers United qualified on a 3-1 on aggregate.

Stanley Eguma’s side will face reigning African Kings, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco as they seek passage to the group phase of the Champions League 

The country’s other representative in the competition, Plateau United also had it good on Sunday with their 1-0 win against Stade Mandji of Gabon at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

Haggai Katoh netted the winning goal for the home team in the 63rd minute.

Having drawn 2-2 in the first leg, Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side won the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

The Jos club will do battle with Tunisia’s Esperance in the first round
