After scoring a Dessers warns rivals Rangers will get better

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers says Rangers made a title statement by hammering Hearts 5-0 - and insists they’re only going to get even better.

The Nigerian striker scored a double against the Jambos at Ibrox to send Gers five points ahead of Celtic at the top of the Premiership. Dessers has now bagged 16 goals this season and, along with strikes from new boys Mohamed Diomande, Oscar Cortes, and Fabio Silva, put Hearts to the sword in Govan.

The 29-year-old feels it was a significant win for the league leaders but is convinced there’s more to come from Clement’s in-form side. After the emphatic result against Steven Naismith’s men, Dessers said: “I think today was a big statement. It was a really good team performance. The result was 5-0 but I don’t think Hearts played a bad game, they are a good team.

“You can see we are in a good place just now. But we have to stay humble, keep our heads down, and continue to work hard.

“Hopefully we can keep up this form. We are a really good team at this moment but I still think there is quite a bit of growth left and that’s a positive thing.

"That is the feeling of everyone in the training ground and that is why we stay hungry. We need to keep working harder because we know there is more to come.”

Gaffer Clement was delighted with his team’s display against a Tynecastle outfit who were bang in form. But the Belgian boss is refusing to get carried away and says his only focus now is Wednesday night’s tough test against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
