There is no question that Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Not just of this era, but all of time. There is, after all, a reason he was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team as one of the top 75 players in league history.

Over the last few years, Giannis has garnered comparisons to other greats of the game. On a recent podcast, former Bucks assistant coach, and current Los Angeles Lakers head coach, Darvin Ham revealed what he feels Giannis has in common with Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.

Ham was discussing how fortunate he has been to have coached Kobe, LeBron, and Giannis at different points in his career:

“Coming into the league as a coach, being with Kobe for two years. Giannis for four years. Now being with Bron going into the second year, they all have that passion and that care factor about not just being available, but being at the highest level.

“They exhaust every resource to make sure that they’re in the position to really help the entire team. Of the entire environment that they are a part of leading.”

There is no question that Giannis is the undisputed best player and leader of the Bucks. But even that statement does not do the two-time MVP justice. There is another level, reached by so few, that Giannis has achieved in both his play and as a leader.

He brings out the best in his teammates. He demands excellence from everyone who plays with him. And, perhaps most importantly, he leads by example.

There was a time when young Giannis was mentored in the offseason by NBA greats like Kobe and Kevin Garnett. Now, Giannis is the one doing the mentoring. Earlier this offseason, he invited 2022 first-round pick MarJon Beauchamp to come to Greece with him to train.

Over the course of his career, Giannis has made it a point to avoid training with other current NBA superstars. Undoubtedly, he could have if he wanted to. However, he is so dedicated to the Bucks, so dedicated to the city of Milwaukee, that he is spending his time and energy to help develop the players on his roster. There are many forms of greatness, and Giannis is certainly one of them.
