Chelsea fans think Drogba was discussing a move to Stamford Bridge with Osimhen

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and Napoli star Victor Osimhen sparked a frenzy among Blues fans after they were spotted in conversation ahead of Nigeria's Afcon clash against Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday.

The Super Eagles ran out 1-0 victors against the tournament hosts but all the attention on social media was focused on the pre-match exchange.

The Stamford Bridge icon caught up with the reigning African Football of the Year, who has been linked with a move to the club, in the tunnel before the second group stage match in Abidjan.

And Blues fans were united in the belief that their former striker was helping to broker a deal that could see him join Mauricio Pochettino's side.

'Yeah, Osimhen is joining Chelsea, I have a feeling it's happening in the summer.' One fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Another said: 'Telling to come to Chelsea. Super agent Drogba.' While a third pleaded: 'Didier Drogba please convince him to Join Chelsea.'

The Nigeria star scored in his country's opening fixture draw with Equatorial Guinea, before winning the penalty that decided their matchday two clash against the hosts.

Osimhen has been linked with a move to a raft of clubs in January - or more realistically - in the summer amid an increasingly strained relationship with Napoli, who have made a dismal Serie A title defence.

The striker extended his contract with the Neapolitan side last month which is believed to include a release clause to be in the region of €120-130 million (£104m-£113m).
