CAF Women's Champions League: Bayelsa Queens start on losing note against Sundowns
Bayelsa Queens vs Mamelodi Sundowns

Despite dominating play in both the first and second half, Nigerian champions, Bayelsa Queens, lost 2-1 to holders Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in their opening Group B game at the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League, on Monday.

Lelona Daweti was the hero for the South Africans; scoring in both the first and second half.

She scored with a header in the first half before adding another well taken strike in the second half in the 57th minute.

Domo Okara’s side were given a lifeline when Mary-Magdalene Anjor reduced the deficit for Bayelsa Queens 10 minutes from time.

Mamelodi Sundowns held on to win the game despite late pressure from the Nigeria's flag bearers.

Bayelsa Queens will hope to get it right when they take on TP Mazembe of Congo Democratic Republic in their next game on Thursday.
