Balogun to have Monaco medical Tuesday

Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun is expected to undergo his Monaco medical on Tuesday ahead of his permanent transfer to the Ligue 1 club, according to Fabrice Hawkins.

The 22-year-old had a brilliant loan spell with Reims in the French top-flight last season. He registered 22 goals and three assists from 39 appearances across all competitions.

The USA international is now on the verge of returning to Ligue 1. As per Hawkins, he will have a series of medical tests with Monaco on Tuesday before signing a five-year deal.

The Gunners will receive a fee of €45m including bonuses for his services.

Balogun was hugely impressive for Reims last term, but that did not change the stance of manager Mikel Arteta. Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah remain the main strikers for him.

Hence, the decision to sell Balogun is the right one. The club’s hierarchy have sanctioned his sale to Monaco, and they could benefit in future due to a significant sell-on clause.

It will be interesting to see whether Arsenal make another signing from the funds gained. The club have been eyeing another forward, but a versatile defender could be pursued instead.

Fabio Vieira showed against Fulham that he has improved significantly with his decision-making. We believe the attacker is now ready to step up and become a regular starter under Arteta.

With Jurrien Timber out for the long-term with a knee injury, it would make sense for the Gunners to pursue a versatile defender. Kyle Walker-Peters could be a late option for the club.
