The godfather of marathons and road races in Nigeria Yussuf Amuda Alli has congratulated Tobi Amusan on her induction into the University of Texas, El-Paso, Texas, America Sports Hall of Fame.
The world record holder in 100 hurdles added another feather to her cap, as she was inducted into the University of Texas El Paso’s (UTEP) Hall of Fame.
Alli, a renowned long jumper who broke several records as a collegiate athlete at the University of Missouri and was also inducted into the University of Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, urged youths to emulate Amusan and strive to surpass her achievements.
Amusan became the first Nigerian to win a World Athletics Championship gold medal in Oregon USA, a feat that has engraved her status as one of the greatest athletes in Nigeria.
Besides this, Amusan has set multiple records in the 100m hurdles, including the current world record, which is a testament to her exceptional commitment, speed, agility, determination and endurance.
A three-time Olympian, Amusan has won numerous African and Commonwealth Games titles, demonstrating her dominance in regional and international Championships.
Amusan, an alumna of UTEP, joined the institution’s 2024 Hall of Fame class, becoming the youngest-ever female athlete from UTEP to achieve this feat.
Said Alli, “Being inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in the United States is a big deal, and I am happy that Amusan has followed in the footsteps of Nigerian greats like Innocent Egbunike, Falilat Ogunkoya, Chidi Imoh, and my humble self, who were inducted into their universities' Sports Hall of Fame because of their achievements and their exemplary conduct outside sports.
“I am happy for Amusan and I congratulated her. I pray God will give her the grace to achieve more in athletics and exemplary conduct to inspire the next generation.”
