Wimbledon Open: Djokovic joins Serena, Federer in exclusive club

Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic made history on Wednesday when he won his second-round match at Wimbledon.

After beating Australia's Jordan Thompson in straight sets, the Serbian star and No. 2 seed captured his 350th singles victory in a Grand Slam tournament. Djokovic joins only Serena Williams and Roger Federer as the only players in tennis history to win at least 350 Grand Slam matches. Williams has 367 and Federer has 369.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion struggled in the second set and was two points away from losing it until rallying back to win the tiebreaker with an ace. He pointed at his head and swaggered off the court in celebration.

Djokovic has now won 41 straight matches on Wimbledon's Centre Court dating back to 2014. On Friday, he will face the winner of Stan Wawrinka's match against Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the third round.

Djokovic is seeking his eighth Wimbledon championship, which would tie with Federer for most wins in men's competition. Martina Navratilova holds the overall record with nine titles at The All England Lawn Tennis Championships.

Federer retired from professional tennis in 2022 after winning 20 career Grand Slam singles titles. Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles – tied with Djokovic for most in the Open era (since 1968) and second-most all-time behind Margaret Court's 24. Like Federer, Williams also stepped away from tennis last year.
