Flying Eagles qualified for African Youth Championship billed for Egypt in 2023 after a nail-biting 2-1 win over Cote d'Ivoire on Tuesday night.

Nigeria U-20 side booked their place at the forthcoming African U-20 Champions in Egypt next gear with a 2-1 win over Cote d'Ivoire on Tuesday night.
The coach Ladan Bosso-tutored side had to wait till extra time to overcome their stubborn neighbours after the Young Elephants forced the game into extra time with a 1-1 scoreline at full-time at Stade General Seyni Kountché.
Daniel Daga had put Nigeria ahead five minutes into the match before Seydou Traore rallied back for the Ivorien teams in the first half. Both team could not find the winning goal in the second of the match which eventually dragged into extra time.
Nigeria was awarded a golden chance to seal the game after winning a penalty in the 100 minutes. Ibrahim Yahaya stepped up and converted the penalty to put Nigeria ahead in the 115 minutes. Flying Eagles held on to qualify for Egypt 2023 and set up a final with the Benin Republic who defeated Bukina Faso-1 in the first semi-finals .
Benin and Nigeria are the two qualifiers from West Africa and will join six other qualifiers for the eight-team finals in Egypt.
Ibrahim Muhammad and Ahmed Abdullahi scored the goals that consigned African champions Ghana to a 2-0 defeat last Sunday, before the Flying Eagles drew 2-2 with Burkina Faso on Wednesday.
The latter’s 2-1 defeat of Ghana earned them a place in the last four.
