Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr. is ready to lower his financial demands in a direct attempt to break the ongoing contract stalemate with the club.

The Brazilian international’s long-term future in Spain remains highly uncertain, but his camp is now showing flexibility ahead of a critical meeting scheduled for next week to bring the lengthy matter to a final conclusion.

Significant financial differences

It has been over a year since the club and the player’s agents opened formal talks over renewing his contract, which expires in June 2027. However, no breakthrough has been achieved so far.

The financial differences between Real Madrid and Vinicius remain significant, leaving three options open for the 26-year-old winger: sign an extension, wait until next summer to depart as a free agent, or complete a move to Arsenal during the current transfer window.

Real Madrid previously offered an extension worth around €20 million net per season.

However, the forward’s camp rejected this proposal, asking instead for a total package close to €30 million. This requested package comprised a higher base salary, standard performance-related bonuses, and a separate renewal bonus.

The demand for a renewal bonus has become the primary sticking point between the two parties.

Real Madrid have always been firmly opposed to accepting Vinicius’ request for a renewal bonus, believing it would create a dangerous knock-on effect within the squad during future contract renewals for other star players.

However, Vinicius’ entourage firmly insists that they view a renewal bonus as the only fair way to increase his overall earnings.

Despite the tension, the report now suggests that Vinicius is willing to lower his demands, offering a clear path toward a compromise.

Head coach Jose Mourinho has been in regular contact with the 26-year-old star, emphasising his massive importance to the project.

While Arsenal remain highly attentive to the situation in England, no direct bids have been made, and the priority for both Vinicius and Real Madrid is to find a middle ground during next week’s face-to-face talks.

Mikel Arteta’s side are exploring the possibility of signing Vinicius Jr before the end of the summer transfer window but have yet to submit an offer to Madrid.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are yet to make an official approach for Vinicius Jr but a potential switch to the Premier League champions ‘appeals’ to the 26-year-old.

Meanwhile, former EPL star Troy Deeney does not think Arsenal should try and sign Vinicius Junior: “If it did happen, it would be amazing for the Premier League to have a superstar on that level in terms of global appeal. I don’t like it. I don’t think it suits the way Arsenal play. I don’t think his personality suits Arteta.

“I think Vinicius is a massive diva in terms of what he wants and what he needs. I don’t think he would buy into the collective, and that would be something new for Arteta to have to deal with, because he’s all about the group.

“You’d have Saka on one side, who’s done everything right, then you bring in this guy and go, ‘Everyone, give him the ball.’ And you have to keep giving him the ball. I don’t like it. I don’t think it helps Arsenal; I really don’t.”
