After an unexpected exit from last Friday’s 100 metres showdown at the Diamond League meet in Lausanne, Switzerland, double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson Herah will hope for a better showing as she headlines the 12-member Jamaican contingent that will take part in the Spitzen Leichtathletik meet Tuesday at the Stadion Allmend in Lucerne.

Thompson Herah will contest the women’s 100 metres A race, her 19th race of the season at 1:13 p.m. Jamaica time.

Also set to line up in the event is American Sha’Carri Richardson who will be competing in her first race since the United States Championships in June as well as 2013 World Championships silver medallist Murielle Ahoure-Demps.

The much-anticipated clash between Thompson Herah, five-time world 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and World 200m champion Shericka Jackson saw only the latter competing in the event last Friday.

Thompson Herah false-started and Fraser-Pryce withdrew because of an injury that she described as discomfort in her hamstring, which did not recover in time.

Thompson Herah has a season’s best of 10.79 seconds which she clocked in May. At 1:06 p.m., Shashalee Forbes and Natasha Morrison will run in the women’s 100m B race facing Olympic 100m hurdles silver medallist Kendra Harrison.

Forbes will also be doing the sprint double at the event. The women’s 200m will run at 11:43 a.m.

Commonwealth Games champion Janieve Russell will face former Olympic and World champion Dalilah Muhammad in the women’s 400m hurdles at 1:28 p.m.

Russell is coming off a second-place finish in 53.92 at the Diamond League meet in Lausanne last Friday. Muhammad placed seventh in that race in a very slow 56.03.

For the men, Commonwealth Games champion Rasheed Broadbell and Tokyo Games Olympic champion Hansle Parchment will battle each other at 12:25 p.m in the men’s 110m hurdles for the second time in four days in the A race.

Broadbell clocked a personal best time of 12.99, beating reigning world champion Grant Holloway of the United States for the second time in a row in Lausanne. Parchment finished fourth in 13.13. Damion Thomas will compete in the B race of the event at 1:18 p.m.

World Championships semi-finalist Ackeem Blake will line up in the men’s 100m facing World Championships silver medallist Marvin Bracy of the United States at 12:59 p.m.

Blake is coming off winning the 2022 NACAC title in 9.98, his fourth sub-10-second clocking this season. Nigel Ellis will compete in the B race at 12:52 p.m and will also run in the 200m in the B race at 2:13 p.m

NACAC champion Christopher Taylor will compete in the men’s 400m at 1:40 p.m facing former World and Olympic champion and current world record holder Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa. NACAC champion Andrew Hudson will compete in Heat A of the men’s 200m at 2:20 p.m.

Former World long jump champion Tajay Gayle will be the only Jamaican athlete in a field event at the meet. Gayle will be competing in his third meet since the World Championships having finished fourth at the Diamond League in Monaco earlier this month as well as second at the NACAC Championships in the Bahamas.
