Super Falcons to play Canada in a pre-Olympics training match on Wednesday

The Super Falcons will play Canada’s women’s team in a training match on Wednesday in Marbella, Spain,

In a tweet on its X page on Monday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced that the match will be played behind closed doors at the team’s base in Seville, Spain.

The match will be held as final preparation for the Falcons before they depart Spain for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Nigeria will be in Group C of the women’s football event at the Games, alongside Spain, Japan, and Brazil.

Falcons will play at the tournament for the first time in 16 years.

Canada are the defending champions of the women’s football event after defeating Sweden in the final of the Tokyo Olympics.

The last meeting between the team and Falcons ended in a goalless draw at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Randy Waldrum, Falcons head coach, and his team have been in Spain for a two-week training camp and are scheduled to head to France on July 18.

The team is placed in Group C and will play Brazil on July 25 before facing Spain three days later and Japan in the final game in the group on July 31.

 The Falcons are ranked 36th-ranked in the world and Canada are ranked eighth. This is a Tier 2 match that doesn’t count toward ranking or statistics because there was no limit for substitutions or windows for subs.

Canada opens Group A play at the Olympics on July 25 against No. 28 New Zealand before facing No. 2 France on July 28, and No. 22 Colombia on July 31.
