Watford FC and Super Eagles central defender, William Ekong says Nigeria is determined to stay focused at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, and therefore have nothing to prove to anyone.
In a chat with 234sportsng.com in Garoua, the former Udinese defender maintained that while the Super Eagles are not in Cameroon to make up the numbers, the team will be competing to cart away the coveted AFCON trophy.
Ekong added that the team is not unaware of threats coming from the big four namely Morocco, Cameroon, Senegal, and Tunisia, adding that the Nigeria senior national will continue to work round the clock to avoid some of the pitfalls of 2019 AFCON.
" We are not here to prove anything to anyone, rather we just want to prove to ourselves that we can do it. Some of the guys have won it before, and I was with the team that Bronze at the last edition.
"More than anything I want to win it for myself, and we are working towards it. I believe we are motivated inside out to win it.
" I am enjoying the time here in the stadium with the fans. I think our team is doing very well," he said.
Nigeria faces Guinea Bissau on Wednesday after booking a spot in the knockout stage of the competition with victories over Egypt and Sudan.
