Nigeria-born Saints winger Samuel Edozie insisted he would work “100 per cent every day” under Ralph Hasenhuttl and added: “Hopefully, the performances can take over.”

The 19-year-old, who arrived from Manchester City on transfer deadline day, impressed having come off the bench during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Wolves.

He joins a growing list of former City youngsters making their Premier League debuts at Saints this season, with Gavin Bazunu and Romeo Lavia also featuring in the top flight.

Asked by the club website what manager Hasenhuttl was expecting from him this season, Edozie said: “I think he is just expecting hard work.

“Most managers would expect that, so just to make sure I am working at 100 per cent every day and then, hopefully, the performances can take over.

Saints are currently 12th in the early stages of the Premier League campaign, with seven points from six games.

“It seems like a great team,” said Edozie on his arrival.

“I have watched most of the games this season, had some big wins. I saw Romeo scored the other day, so I was very proud of him for that.

“I am excited to get started.”
