Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo has urged Manchester United to name their price so he can trigger a move that is already on the table.

Superstar Ron and his agent, Jorge Mendes, held showdown talks with the Old Trafford hierarchy this week in a bid to resolve his future.

Mendes told United chiefs he had a live offer but the club must slap a transfer fee on his head to get the deal done.

United refused and said they were not letting Ronaldo go.

The Red Devils also balked at the suggestion they should simply release him on a free transfer because of what was described as his “loyalty” to the club.

Ronaldo has a year left of his current deal but United have the option to extend that by another 12 months.

And with United’s Premier League opener at home to Brighton just nine days away, both sides are at an impasse.

Andy Mitten, editor of fanzine United We Stand, told Sky that, in a fans’ poll, 91 per cent of fans want the club to get rid of Ronaldo now.

The Portuguese, 37, missed the club’s pre- season tour of Thailand and Australia for “family reasons”.

Ron has since returned to training but was not involved when United played a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wrexham at their Carrington training base on Wednesday.

It also seems unlikely he will be involved in this weekend’s friendlies, with the club sending a strong team to play Atletico Madrid in Oslo on Saturday.

A second team will then take on Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford on Sunday in what will be new boss Erik ten Hag’s first match at the Theatre of Dreams.

Ronaldo was United’s top scorer last season with 24 goals but the club finished sixth on 58 points, their lowest-ever tally in the Premier League era.

Meanwhile, Red Devils’ centre-back Eric Bailly is attracting interest from AC Milan and Roma.

The Ivory Coast star has fallen down the pecking order following Lisandro Martinez’s £48.3million arrival from Ajax.

Bailly, 28, made just seven appearances for United last season.
