Rivers United hits Congo for CAF cup assignment, ambassador promises total support 

The Nigerian Ambassador to Congo Republic, Deborah Samaila Iliya has assured the Pride of Rivers maximum support from the entire Nigerian community in Brazzaville as they aim for victory on Sunday, February 12 against Diables Noirs in a CAF TotalEnergies Confederation's Cup group stage fixture.  

The Ambassador who was represented by the Chargé D'affaires of the Nigerian Embassy Mr. Boco Effiom and accompanied by some consular staff and members of the Nigerian community in Brazzaville gave the assurance while receiving the team led by General Manager, Chief Dr. Okey Kpalukwu JP on arrival at the Maya Maya International Airport. 

"On behalf of the Ambassador who is away in Nigeria on official assignment, let me say that while you are here in Brazzaville, we will be here to take care of your stay, and by the grace of God you will have a very successful time. We pray you to win the match. You are welcome and we wish you a lovely stay here in Brazzaville."

General Manager of Rivers United Dr. Okey Kpalukwu JP in his welcome speech thanked the Ambassador for the reception accorded the team while reassuring him of victory.

Captain of the side Festus Austin who spoke on behalf of the players was full of appreciation for the Ambassador stating that the reception, especially at the airport with Nigerian brothers, is a morale booster that will motivate the team not to let the Nation down.

"On behalf of the players, we are happy to meet with you and our brothers and we want to reassure you that we are here to do our job and we won't let you down."

Rivers United will confront Diables Noirs on Sunday, February 12 at the Alphonse Massamba-Debat Stadium, Stade Marchand in Brazzaville and the kickoff is 5 pm Nigeria time.
