Tallaght native Rhasidat Adeleke has been named Irish Athlete of the Year at the 2024 National Athletics Awards, capping off an exceptional year that saw her break multiple Irish records and secure crucial medals for the Irish team.
Adeleke's impressive record-breaking feats include the 60m, 200m, and 300m indoors, as well as the 100m and 400m outdoors. Her outstanding performances played a pivotal role in Ireland's bronze medal win in the mixed 4x400m at the World Relays.
At the European Championships in June, Adeleke won silver medals in the 400m and women's 4x400m, and gold in the mixed 4x400m. Her crowning moment nearly came at the Paris Olympics, where she finished fourth in the individual 400m final, just shy of a medal.
Adeleke also set a new Irish record of 3:19.90 in the 4x400m relay alongside Sophie Becker, Phil Healy, and Sharlene Mawdsley.
In addition to her Athlete of the Year award, Adeleke was also recognized as the Sprint & Hurdles Athlete of the Year.
