The Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five, Nigeria’s biggest five-a-side football tournament, is nearing its grand climax at the National finals.

But before the clash of the big leagues, the qualifiers seem to have raised the bar quite high.

On the 26th of March 2022, In Ibadan where the campus and city qualifiers were merged into one day.

A total of 32 teams registered from the region, with skilful and passionate play, all-around, only two made it to the end.,

Teams IBNE FC and Abimbola FC emerged winners and would be making their way to the National Finals for a chance to outplay other opponents from other regions.

On April 3rd, 2022, at the Campos Mini Stadium, Igbosere, Lagos Island, we saw a total of 36 teams register for this event.

From the get-go, the stadium brimmed to its maximum capacity with spectators who were so emotionally invested in the game, that they were almost frantic with excitement.

Teams who had been training for months for their moment of glory did not hold back even as they went full throttle from the first whistle.

They did not break the beat till the last game as goal after goal was banged into the net with passion.

As expected, some teams did not take their losses quite well even as they contested their obvious defeat.

Sadly, what was done, was permanent and they had to watch as the victors moved on to the next round.

The semi-finals saw some of the most intense matches played in the tournament even as skill met brawn, and endurance triumphed over exhaustion.

Goals were scored, cheers were raised, and more tears fell even as losing teams witnessed their chance at playing against Neymar, snuffed out.

The finals of the Lagos Island qualifiers were played to produce four teams to represent Lagos Island.

You can already guess how intense the matches were. The 36 teams clashed and gave it their best but only 4 emerged to victory – Team Hafjax, Team Bolakale, Team Supreme God House, and Team Young Strikers.

The Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five, Lagos Island Qualifier was a tournament that may produce the winner. That is if the champions from Port Harcourt, Abeokuta, Ibadan, and Lagos Mainland slip up.
