Real Madrid megastar Mbappe is named the La Liga Player of the Month for January

French megastar Kylian Mbappe has been voted the La Liga Player of the Month for January, after a brilliant start to the new year.
The 26-year-old attacker scored five goals over the month in La Liga, during which Real Madrid won all three of their matches, taking the top position in the league and stretching their lead to four points.
Mbappe began January by helping Real Madrid defeat Valencia 1-2, where, despite not scoring, he delivered a strong performance.
A few days later, Mbappe played a key role in Real Madrid’s comeback, scoring twice, including a penalty, in a 4-1 win over Las Palmas.
However, the best was yet to come from Mbappe as the forward played perhaps his best match as a Real Madrid player, scoring all three goals in a 0-3 victory against Real Valladolid in the final match of the month.
Mbappe won the La Liga Player of the Month award for the first time in his career, succeeding his teammate Bellingham, who won the award in December.
The Real Madrid superstar triumphed in the final voting ahead of Hugo Duro (Valencia), Kike Garcia (Deportivo Alaves), Luis Milla (Getafe), and Dodi Lukebakio (Sevilla).
Elsewhere, Florian Wirtz is one of world football’s brightest young talents and has emerged as a serious target for Real Madrid in the coming transfer windows.
The 21-year-old, after all, has been in stunning form this season and already has nine goals and nine assists to his name in just 19 Bundesliga appearances. He also has seven goals contributions in the UEFA Champions League.
Wirtz, thus, has been one of the top players on the Merengues’ radar from Germany alongside Alphonso Davies as they see him to be one of the missing pieces in their puzzle.
The youngster has largely been regarded as one of the team’s priority signings for the upcoming transfer window and Real Madrid has been trying to press the accelerator and seal his arrival before he pens a renewal.
As relayed by BILD, however, Wirtz believes that 2026 would be the right time to move to an elite club like Real Madrid to give himself enough time to mould into the player needed at such a respectable club.
He thus plans to extend his contract with Bayer Leverkusen currently but will maintain a release clause of around €100 million to facilitate a move to Real Madrid.
Wirtz’s current deal in Germany runs until the summer of 2027, and Real Madrid can thus forget any possibility of luring him on a free transfer if he is fixated on a renewal.
The board must thus evaluate if the €100 million is better splashed on Wirtz or utilised to strengthen other avenues of interest, especially with the quarter of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe working well.
