The NFF tradition of owing coaches salaries and allowances has continued with new Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro who has not received his salary for the past six months.

The salary owed to the Portuguese is $420,000 in total.

The former Saudi Arabia and Venezuela coach was appointed in May 2022 on a monthly pay of $70,000.

Nigeria’s sports minister, Sunday Dare, stated that the government would take full responsibility for the payment of the gaffer’s salary when he took charge of the Super Eagles.

According to a respected journalist, Osasu Obayiwana, who was a former member of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), anti-racism task force, Peseiro has not been paid for the last six months.

Peseiro, according to the former BBC reporter, has already complained to FIFA about his unpaid wages.

Under current FIFA laws, the former Porto coach can unilaterally terminate his contract, without prejudice, and will have to be paid in full.

The NFF are currently paying off the backlog of outstanding salaries of former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr after unilaterally terminating his contract last December.
