Team Nigeria athletes continue their quest for podium finish in the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games with Favour Ofili competing in the heats of the 200m and Chidi Okezie and Samuel Ogazie in the 400m.

Ofili stands a very good chance of qualifying for the semi-final but her chances of winning a medal are slim.

The field in the women’s 200m is very strong, top contenders in the event include the reigning World Champion, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, USA’s Gabby Thomas, Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, and Namibia’s Christine Mboma, making it a highly competitive field.

Ofili has already established herself as one of Nigeria’s premier athletes with a 2022 Commonwealth silver medal among other medals.

Okezie and Ogazi who will be running in Heat 1 and Heat 4 also stand a great chance of making it to the semi-final and probably the final but like Ofili, their chances of making the podium are rather slim.

Kanyinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe, two Nigerian sprinters competing for a place in the final of the men’s 100m Sunday evening do not stand a chance of winning a medal.

Like Ofili, they face a strong field that includes Ackeem of Jamaica, Tebogo Letsile, Simbine Akani, Bednarek Kenneth, Jacobs Lamout Marcell, Oblique Seville, Hakim

Noah Lyles, Kishane Thompson, and Fred Kerley.

Letsile Tebogo, South Africa’s Akani Simbine and USA’s Bednarek.
