Paris Olympics: IOC sends Ogunsemilore out of Games Village as boxer denies taking drugs

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has directed the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) to evacuate Cynthia Ogunsemilore, a Nigerian female 60kg to be evacuated from the Games' Village.
This follows her provisional suspension on account of her alleged doping violation contained in a result of a sample test.
In compliance with the directive, the Team Nigeria management will cooperate with the IOC and any other relevant bodies to ensure she is moved out of the Village.
Meanwhile, Ogunsemilore has denied doping allegations by the International Testing Agency (ITA) which has provisionally suspended the star boxer from taking part in the Paris Olympics.
ITA said Ogunsemilore tested positive for the banned diuretic furosemide in a sample taken on Friday, July 26. Furosemide is a masking agent.
The Nigerian boxer, one of Africa’s hot prospects for a medal in Paris, however, denied the allegations and demanded another test to prove her innocence.
“This looks like a setup to tarnish my image and deny me a chance to win Olympic gold, I have never doped in my life, maybe they mistook my sample with somebody else’s but not mine,” said Ogunsemilore.
“They want to ruin my career, I’m still in the Games Village and tonight there’s a hearing during which I’ll explain to them I have not taken anything and they can test me again I prove them wrong.”
Nigeria’s coach in Paris, Adura Olalehin who’s a light-heavyweight bronze medallist at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, is still mum on the issue. He’s probably leading the onslaught to prove Cynthia’s innocence.
And the 75-62 overwhelming victory of D'Tigress over the Australian female Basketball has lifted the ebbing morale of other members of the Team Nigeria.
For Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) president Habu Gumel the victory could not have come at a better time than at a moment of low morale in the face of a string of bad news coming in quick succession.
The Table Tennis team through Aruna Quadri and Omotayo Olajide, Fatima Bello, and Edem Offing all lost in the round of 64 in the singles.
There were also losses in boxing. But by far the most dampening was the adverse doping violation by Ogunsemilore.
The Falcons also posted two uninspiring results to add to the many woes building up to dampen the enthusiasm in the camp.
''I felt relieved when the basketball victory came to ease off tensíon that was beginning to build,'' noted Gumel.
''I congratulate them and extend warm felicitations on account of their the right effort to demonstrate the focus,'' the NOC president said.
Emma Igbonosa, Technical Director, Nigeria Cycling Federation said the Basketball team offered a relief because not many saw the victory coming.
The defeat of Australians was not easy apparently because of their top ranking as the number three against the 16th ranking of the D'Tigress going into the Games.
Opeyori Anuoluwapo, Captain of Team Nigeria said the victory of Basketball came in at the nick of time to reenergize the other teams.
