Paris Olympics: Adekuoroye loses quarter-finals bout to China’s Kexin Hong

Team Nigeria's hopes of winning a medal through the sport of wrestling at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games are gradually evaporating as another fighter has lost out.

Three-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Odunayo Adekuoroye lost her quarter-finals in women’s 57kg wrestling at the ongoing Olympics in Paris, France on Thursday.

Odunayo Adekuoroye had won her second-round fight against Algeria's Fouzia Aouissi by a VIN (Victory by Injury) and was looking imperial in the match against China’s Kexin Hong, leading 4-0 at some point in the contest.

However, Kexin Hong fought back ferociously by scoring 8 points in quick succession and eventually won the fight 10-8.

Adakuoroye has an opportunity for repechage if Kexin Hong, the Chinese fighter makes it to the final.

Then she will have another opportunity to fight for the bronze medal via repechage.
