Over four million Madrid fans sign petition demanding Mbappe be sold

Football superstar Kylian Mbappe is coming under intense fire from Real Madrid fans as tensions in the Spanish capital continue to boil over.

Los Blancos have endured a difficult season, which saw new boss Xabi Alonso sacked in January after just months at the helm.

They now sit second in LaLiga, 11 points adrift of fierce rivals Barcelona, who could confirm their league title with a win in El Clásico on Sunday.

And nobody is feeling the heat more than Mbappe, 27, after he came under fire for taking a trip to Sardinia with his new girlfriend, actor Ester Exposito.

The forward was recovering from a hamstring injury last weekend when he took the trip, but with the league out of reach and their Champions League exit coming just weeks earlier, the escape has rubbed fans up the wrong way.

Mbappe’s personal team responded to the backlash with a statement that read: “Part of the criticisms are based on an over interpretation of elements related to a recovery period strictly supervised by the club”.

“This does not correspond to the reality of the commitment and the work that Kylian does daily for the good of the team”.

The tensions were only compounded by reports emerging that Mbappe was involved in a confrontation with a member of the club’s coaching team.

The Athletic reported that the French international “spoke angrily in insulting terms” to a member of staff who called him offside during a training game.

The incident is said to have affected dressing room morale and, on top of the position of the club and his holiday controversy, has inspired a strong pushback from fans.

A supporter-made petition to get Mbappe out of the club is being widely shared on social media, and currently reports to have had over four million signatures.

The description of the petition reads: “Madridistas, make your voice heard.

“If you believe change is needed, don’t stay silent — sign this petition and stand for what you think is best for the club’s future.”

Mbappe is not believed to be facing any disciplinary action from inside the club, with manager Alvaro Arbeloa explaining when asked about Mbappe’s trip that what players did in their free time was none of his business.

But as tensions continue to flare, things could get very ugly if Sunday’s result does not go the way of Madrid.

Madrid has little to play for, having been eliminated from the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, and they are virtually out of contention in La Liga. They trail Barcelona by 11 points with four rounds remaining, meaning the Catalan club will clinch the title if they avoid defeat on Sunday.

Madrid has yet to say whether or not Mbappé will be fit and available for the clásico. According to Spanish media reports, the 27-year-old went to Madrid’s training centre on a day off to continue his recovery.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that there are no plans for Real Madrid to sell Mbappe in the summer transfer window.

Mbappe and Vinicius Junior are two of the biggest superstars at Madrid, and there have been suggestions in certain sections of the Spanish media that the two do not always get along.

On the pitch, too, some Madrid fans have pointed out that the France international striker and the Brazil international winger are not compatible.

Transfer guru Romano has admitted that things are not great between Mbappe and Madrid, but he has dismissed suggestions that Los Blancos could sell him in the summer transfer window.
