Returnee Super Eagles winger, Henry Onyekuru has thrown his weights behind coach Austin Eguavoen's training methods and techniques as Nigeria steps up its build-up towards a successful outing at the ongoing African Cup Nations, which got underway on Sunday.
Speaking on MTN We Move With Super Eagles, the former AS Monaco forward expressed his delight with Cerezo's training techniques, adding that the players now enjoy more camaraderie in camp, which according to him was made possible by the coaching crew.
Onyekuru maintained that he had no problem settling down into the team despite his late call-up after the team was rocked by a series of withdrawals. He then gave kudos to coach Austin Eguavoen for putting him on the right track which has helped his game tremendously.
" So far so good, the coach has been (pause). He has put me on track since I joined the team. The last time I played was like a week ago. With his training, technique, and fitness level, everybody has been working together.
"It is a good spirit! Even when we were few in camp, the unity is there, and we hope to see other players team up. We have always portrayed that spirit," said Onyekuru.
Onyekuru has been a subject of an imminent move to his former club, Galatasaray this January after he struggled to make any appreciable impact at Olympiakos this season.
He would need to dig deeper into his technical books of tricks and come out with a performance that would endear him into the hearts of the Super Eagles coaching crew to stand a chance of picking a starting shirt ahead of Taiwo Awoniyi and Sadiq Umar.
The petit striker has also dropped to third in the pecking order of wingers in the Super Eagles side with the duo of Chidera Ejuike and Ahmed Musa highly favoured by Eguavoen to pick a starting shirt ahead of the fleet-footed winger.
