Okocha reveals corruption made him quit as Delta FA chairman, canvass support for Chelle

Former Super Eagles captain Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has revealed why he had to leave his position as the head of the Delta Football Association (FA).
“I failed woefully (as Delta FA chairman),” Okocha told Lagos Talks FM today.
“If I remember, I did not complete my tenure, I walked away.
“I raise my hand I didn’t achieve anything as Delta FA chairman.”
Okocha said corruption and the system will not allow people like him to succeed in this post.
“The structure will not allow people like us to succeed,” he said.
“The level of corruption in all sectors in Nigeria is too much.
“There are too many people with personal interests around and they won’t allow you to work.”
Okocha also urges Nigerians to support new coach Eric Chelle because Nigeria must feature at next year’s World Cup.
Various reports had quoted Okocha as going against the appointment of the former Mali coach.
However, the former PSG and Bolton Wanderers star midfielder said the decision to appoint Eric Chelle was that of the NFF and the results of the Super Eagles under him will determine whether or not it was the best decision.
“The decision to appoint the new coach was that of the NFF,” Okocha told Lagos Talks FM
“We should give him a chance to do his job.
“We should support him as well as the NFF and hopefully we will be at the World Cup.
“We all want the team to qualify for the World Cup because we all benefit when they are doing well.”
He added: “This is a results business. If we don’t qualify, God forbid, he will be the first to know he has failed.”
