Ogunbote may replace sacked Sanni at Kwara United

Former Shooting Stars manager, Gbenga Ogunbote, is set to be appointed as Kwara United’s new head coach following the dismissal of Tunde Sanni.

Sanni was relieved of his duties on Sunday after a disappointing 1–0 home defeat to Abia Warriors in Ilorin, the Harmony Boys’ fourth loss in eight matches this season.

Despite his poor start to the new campaign, Sanni enjoyed a successful spell last term, guiding Kwara United to the President's Federation Cup title, defeating Abakaliki FC in the final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

The triumph earned the club a place in the CAF Confederation Cup, but their continental run ended early after a 5–3 aggregate defeat to Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, losing 4–3 in Accra and 1–0 in Abeokuta.

Club sources revealed that talks with Gbenga Ogunbote, widely known as Oracle, are at an advanced stage, with an announcement expected before Wednesday’s rescheduled league fixture against Kano Pillars.

Ogunbote, who has previously managed Sunshine Stars, Enyimba, Rangers International, and Remo Stars, is admired for his tactical discipline and track record of stabilising underperforming sides.

Last season was with Shooting Stars, whom he led for 2 seasons, racking up 94 matches, securing 38 wins, 25 draws, and 31 losses.

Kwara United currently sit 10th in the NPFL table with eight points from six games.
