With a paltry 36 points from 36 games, MFM FC officially became the first team to be relegated from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday after they were beaten 2-1 at home by Niger Tornadoes.

The Olukoya Boys had struggled all through the season with several changes in management and coaching staff as well as players.

However, hard as they tried MFM is back to the Nigeria National League for the first since after they got promoted to the elite division some seasons ago.

Before the final nail on their coffin, the Lagos-based side had earlier had their survival hopes dented last weekend with the defeat in Akure against Sunshine Stars.

Their bad case was made worse with Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to Tornadoes.

The Ikon Allah boys drew the first blood in Ijebu Ode with Munir Idris breaking the deadlock in the 22nd minute.

But MFM were able to pull level in the 63rd minute from Chukwudi Ekeocha's free-kick.

While the game appeared to be going to end as a stalemate in Ijebu, 10-man Tornadoes returned to the lead with Jonas Emmanuel's finish in the 91st minute.

MFM thus remain rooted in the 20th position with 36 points while Niger Tornadoes moved up to the 13th position with 46 points.
