Rangers have been linked with a move for Nigerian international striker Stephen Odey.

The Randers striker, who has also been on Celtic’s radar, shot to prominence after netting 13 times for the Danish Superliga outfit last season.

Randers’ sporting director Soren Pedersen tonight refused to deny interest from either Glasgow club.

Sources in Nigeria claim talks have already been held with Ibrox sporting director Ross Wilson.

But Pedersen said of the reported interest from Ibrox: “It is certainly not so concrete that I have an offer.

“That could easily happen. There are many clubs that have shown interest in him, because he is a good player. But there is nothing concrete from there.

“We’re happy with him and it’s not something where we’re saying he should be sold in this window. He has a great sporting value, so if we say yes to something, it must be both the right club and the right amount.”

Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst is keen to add to his attacking options with Alfredo Morelos entering the final year of his contract.

Cedric Itten has left to join BSC Young Boys in Berne and, with Morelos injured, Rangers finished the season with only Kemar Roofe and Fashion Sakala as recognised strikers.

Odey impressed with his strike rate last season as Randers finished mid-table. That haul included three in the Europa Conference League group stage – one of those against Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.

The 5ft 9in striker also netted against Liverpool for Genk in the Champions League two years ago.

Ironically he was loosely linked with Celtic when Rodgers was boss back in 2017 after he burst onto the scene with FC Zurich in Switzerland.
