Obaseki rewards Edo Queens with N100m, as Alli thanks the Governor, and the First Lady

The Executive Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki has rewarded the Edo Queens Football Club of Benin City with N100 million for winning the 2024 WAFU-B Zonal Champions League qualifiers in Côte d'Ivoire.

The sports-loving Governor announced during a grand reception organized by the Edo State Government for the reigning Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL)2024 champions at the Festival Hall in Government House, Benin City.

Receiving the newly crowned West African Champions, Edo Queens, whose exceptional skill and resilience earned them a commanding 3-0 victory against Ainonvi FC of Benin Republic in the final in Abidjan on Friday to lift the 2024 WAFU-B Zonal Champions League cup and qualification to CAF Champions League proper, Obaseki showered encomium on the entire team, including the officials and supporters club.

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission Yussuf Alli has thanked Governor Obaseki for his prompt reward to the team that conquered West Africa.

Alli, a former international athlete, assured the Governor that newly crowned West African champion is going compete at the final of the Caf Women’s Champions League later in the year with the sole aim of winning the trophy.

Alli, the godfather of marathons and road races in Nigeria also thanked the Edo State First Lady Besty Obaseki for her financial support and more importantly her emotional support,

“ Our First Lady is passionate about the Queens, her commitment to the team especially her emotional support is second to none. She always ensures that we lack nothing. Without her emotional and financial support, we won’t be the Nigerian and the West African Champion.
