NYG: Okon rewards Akwa-Ibom medalists with cash
Athletics Coach and vice-chairman of the Akwa-Ibom State Athletics Association Gabriel Okon has been commended for his support for the state athletes and coaches at the just concluded National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, Delta State.
Speaking in Asaba, the venue of the games, Akwa-Ibom State Director of Sports Bridget Oton commended Okon for doling out cash to winners in the athletics event.
“We appreciate your gesture. This will go a long way in motivating our athletes to greater things” she said.
Okon gave gold medalists at the games promised N20,000, N15,000 for silver and N10,0000 for bronze medalists.
He also gave medalists in the relays N32,000, N24,000 and N20,000 for gold, silver and bronze respectively.
Also, Secretary of the State Athletics Association Jane Edet commended Okon for his support for coaches, and other classes of officials, “ He also gave the coaches one hundred thousand Naira and supplied us with water and fruits daily. God will bless him” she prayed.
